Overall responsibility for RIM and BlackBerry corporate reputation management and external communications in the Latin America region. Must drive regional and in-country communications programs in conjunction with RIM regional corporate communications team, marketing teams, carrier marketing teams and carrier partners. Responsible for local awareness and corporate reputation management. Reports to the Senior Director of Public Relations in North America


The successful candidate's responsibilities will include:
  • Responsible for managing RIM's corporate communications and product/services Public Relations in Latin America; responsible for developing and executing communications strategies (must develop quarterly plans) and programs in line with the corporate marketing, corporate communications, product plans, regional strategy and budget in the region.
  • Must be able to manage regional agency teams and regional Corporate Communications team. Responsible for contributing to forecasting, budget / expense planning and management, program tracking, measurement, etc. Monitor and manage performance to ensure objectives are met and report / correct any deviation from plan. Budgets are to be approved / signed off by the Senior Director, Public Relations in North America.
  • Appoint, brief, engage, manage and evaluate agencies.
  • Day-to-day management of existing team, external agencies and budget.
  • Must localize Public Relations materials to ensure they are relevant to the designated region and consistent with RIM branding guidelines and product positioning.
  • Execute visibility programs with in-country media.
  • Responsible for liaising with internal stakeholders regarding corporate issues.
  • Management of local press releases approval and distribution; press releases to be approved by RIM headquarters.
  • Customer success programs including seeding with celebrities and influencers for product reviews.
  • Support communications programs involving partners including wireless carriers and application developers as well as customers.
  • The candidate needs to able to 'hit the ground running'; minimum 15 years experience in corporate communications, public relations or marketing; experience in the field of telecommunications, mobile technologies, business-to-business solutions or consumer applications an asset
  • Experience in working with senior executives and capable of effectively and appropriately managing them and their internal and external messaging; need to work successfully at all levels of the organization
  • Pertinent market knowledge and media contacts highly desirable
  • Preferred candidate will have experience dealing on a pan-Latin American basis.
  • Fluent communications in Spanish, English and Brazilian Portuguese
  • A team player who is comfortable working with, and gaining commitment from, personnel across different disciplines and at different management levels
  • Creativity, flexibility, and ability to manage and reset priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience of having successfully managed public relations agencies and managing issues and crises
